5 More Awesome Tips For Copywriting To Get Great Results

Copywriting isn’t an easy job. Any copywriter worth their salt can tell you that. While persuasive writing sounds simple on paper, trying to sell a product online to strangers isn’t a walk in the park as one might expect. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of five more tips on copywriting, in addition to our other five tips.

1. Research

An essential part of being a copywriter is selling a product to customers and you’re not going to get anywhere if you don’t know what you’re talking about, or in this case, writing about. Doing additional research on whatever field/industry you’re working for is an extra effort that will pay off. Look into demographics, who are the people who will most likely be attracted to whatever you’re selling? Knowing information like this makes copywriting easier.

2. Focus on the Benefits

Copywriting is about selling; you want a customer to be interested in and then buy your product. So, when pitching, you have to focus on the benefits your product will bring. Ask yourself how will this improve the customers’ life. For example, say you’re pitching a camera filter app to potential customers. Let them know how the app will enhance their selfies or refine their pictures for social media. Focus on the benefits to reel them in.

Stay Positive

3. Have a Formula

Getting people to act after reading your writing is tough however there is a trick in the copywriting business that might help. The PAS or PAR formula is a popular formula used by copywriters. First, you start with P, the problem your customers are facing. Then A, agitate the problem, imagine how the problem will affect your customer, and persuade them of this real problem. Finally, S/R, resolve/solution, provide the solution, aka your product to the customers.

4. Forget what you learned in school

Before you roll your eyes at this tip, hear me out. In school, you were taught how to write eloquent essays with sentences that never start with certain words like but, because, or and. In the copywriting world, your teachers’ advice doesn’t matter anymore. People write like they talk because customers are more likely to listen to a casual tone than a lecturing tone. Slang and abbreviations are commonplace here so you don’t have to worry about sounding formal.

5. Make Design choices carefully

Copywriters get hired to do different types of advertisements and most don’t think about it, but your design choice should match that of your ad. You as the designer should be aware of the place your advertisement will be featured and the audience you intend to attract there. Making these design choices can make or break your ad, which is why taking these conscious choices for the ad is important. Design with intention in mind.
