Social Media Platforms to Include in your Marketing Strategy
It’s evident that in this modern age, social media has grown beyond what was imagined when the internet was being pioneered. These platforms have become so integrated into our daily lives that we commonly use them as sports, news, and entertainment sources. A significant part of marketing has become dedicated to social media, and utilizing these platforms to get your project out there is essential to having a successful venture. Social Media marketing can be quite lucrative, with insane results and return on value. That being said, here we’ll be listing a few of the most popular social media apps/sites along with their individual pros and cons.
1. TikTok
Pros: TikTok is currently one of the most popular social media apps which has garnered millions of users. Content-wise, TikTok is very diverse and has something for everyone. Furthermore, its trending use has also attracted a massive young demographic of teens and young adults due to viral reels showcased on the app. Also, the app is very popular for making short clips of all types go viral.
Cons: TikTok is a video-based app and to have a successful account, you need to prepare video content ideas that will market your project. This may be a lengthy process for some. Since the app is for entertainment, your ideas need to appeal to the general audience. Additionally, you need to stay informed on trends for you to include in your videos.
2. Instagram
Pros: Easily one of the most engaging apps, Instagram is a well-known social media platform often used by businesses as part of their social media marketing. Interacting with followers is simple with multiple features like uploading both pictures and videos along with 24-hour stories on your account. Furthermore, Instagram’s algorithm recently went through an update in which it propels small businesses and increases the reach they get.
Cons: Usually to have a successful Instagram presence, most businesses upload content consistently every day, sometimes several times a day. In addition, brainstorming ideas for posts or stories can be difficult. Another issue with Instagram is its popularity as a platform. Since many people use it, getting your project out there can be harder in the vast sea of content within the app.
3. Twitter
Pros: A social networking platform like no other, Twitter is an interactive app where news and entertainment are commonly featured. It offers a more personal approach to social media with casual tweets being posted. Communication with followers is easier and creates a transparent atmosphere between you and them. Also, Twitter’s algorithm favors pictures and text-only content, making it much less time-consuming than the alternative social networks mentioned.
Cons: Written tweets are part of what makes Twitter stand out, but the app maintains a character limit per tweet of 280. To ensure successful marketing, you will have to learn to be short and precise with your tweets. Another potential bump in the Twitter yellow brick road is their follower limit. Although it is an odd feature, your number of followers can be limited if they pass a certain amount.
4. Facebook
Pros: A classic app used for sharing videos and pictures, Facebook has yet to go out of style with its overwhelming billions of users, as of 2022. Aside from posting content, business marketing on Facebook is very common and other upstarting projects got their beginnings on the app. Facebook also has an incredible algorithm that can be trained to flawlessly market your product, assuming you guide it correctly. It’s no wonder it’s the preferred network for businesses to advertise on.
Cons: However, one of the problems of Facebook is because of its age, the younger demographic has moved to newer apps like Instagram. As such, Facebook has an older demographic. Though depending on your project venture, this may be seen as a positive. In addition. Facebook support is relatively nonexistent and very painful to get in touch with. (We have been waiting over 2 months for them to get back to us…)
5. YouTube
Pros: Personally, one of my favorite video platforms, YouTube is a great way to build a social media presence exclusively through video content. YouTube channels offer your subscribers a personal, interactive, and fun space. Video ideas can shine through on this site where truly the only limit is your creativity. Plus, YouTube now also offers YouTube shorts, in which short clips can be posted to the site to show up in other users’ feeds. This is very similar to the reels found on Instagram and TikTok.
Cons: Something to be aware of is YouTube’s algorithm, which has a habit of changing often and the company is not transparent on this topic, so it may be difficult to see what is trending on the site. Another potential issue is the time commitment of making videos. To finish making a script and then recording takes time, not to mention the long and straining process of editing your content.
