Trending aesthetics you can use in your designs

As in recent years, aesthetics have become popular, especially among the younger generations. Beautiful and eye-pleasing designs are the current craze. Here in this post, we’ll be looking over a few of the most trending aesthetics on the digital web.

But what is an aesthetic?

Traditionally an aesthetic is anything concerned with beauty or the appreciation of beauty. However, the “aesthetics” being referred to here is a collection made to convey a certain mood. These aesthetics will contain images, colors, patterns, phrases, etc. All with the purpose of making the viewer feel a specific way depending on the aesthetic.

Y2K

The Y2K aesthetic is all about bringing the late 90s and early 2000s back. Bright colors, shining glitter, and edgy cyber references galore. Based on the American pop culture of the period, Y2K includes many subcultures including more targeted toward a specific demographic. The graphics are usually minimalistic, shiny, and bold; iconography is additionally a stable in identifying this aesthetic from the rest.

Dark Academia

While there are two prominent Academias: Light and Dark. I’ve noticed a general leaning toward the latter. Dark Academia as the name suggests is an aesthetic based in education and the arts. The colors most associated are browns, grays, and blacks, which gives the preppy aesthetic a professional look. If giving your next marketing project a mysterious yet majestic tone is what you’re looking for then Dark Academia might be your aesthetic.

Cottagecore

Cottagecore is the glamorization of living amongst nature. The opposite of Dark Academia, pastel pinks, blues, greens, and white are the main colors in this aesthetic. Focus is placed often on flowers and cottages where nature is the beautiful backdrop. This aesthetic provides a sense of liberation and freedom from the normalized city/suburban life with its portrayal of a land untouched by humans. If country life, agriculture, or even soft colors are your thing consider making Cottagecore part of your social media marketing.

Indie

A trending aesthetic popular amongst teenagers is the Indie aesthetic. Founded on individuality and freedom, the indie aesthetic takes inspiration from past decades including the 70s, 90s, and 2000s. Nevertheless, this aesthetic is broad and has two huge opposing styles, one side has bright neon colors leaning more toward the Y2K aesthetic, while the other has more toned down and grainy colors to give it a vintage appearance. Whichever you choose, both carry nostalgia to pull your viewers in.

Grunge

Becoming a mainstream aesthetic back in the 90s, Grunge was popularized by alternative rock bands. Breaking away from the status quo, darker colors of red, green, blue, and gray surfaced as part of this aesthetic. Considered edgy and dark, this aesthetic has had many revivals from the early 2010s to currently in 2022. Vintage and dark, grunge is perfect for those trying to emulate an aesthetic for the rebellious.

Royalcore

The most regal of the aesthetics, royalcore displays the refinement and beauty of European royalty. Imagery includes that of architecture, fashion, and hobbies of the periods. While the colors vary, silver, white, and gold are established in this aesthetic. Crowns, thrones, and lavish parties are all part of the visuals that have attracted attention; many period films or shows demonstrate these royal lifestyles which the public continues to soak. Made to be elegant, Royalcore has the fairytale element and remains classy.
